Nothing like that exists now and the Kenton Neighborhood has become one of Portland’s most interesting. Portland International Raceway is in Kenton. So is the Portland Metropolitan Expo Center. Historians note Kenton is the site of Vanport City. The flood of 1948 wiped it out.
Kenton borders St. Johns and Piedmont and has been blessed by the ongoing urban renewal in the area. Denver Avenue is now the area’s main street and is a thriving commercial area as is Mississippi Avenue.
Portland’s highly praised light rail system MAX lies a couple of blocks out of the neighborhood along Interstate Avenue. It gets you to points north, south, east and west.
